[INFO1] - A broad, rounded multi-stemmed flowering shrub covered with fragrant yellow-green flowers in early spring. The flowers open before the leaves emerge and are held close to the branches. Aromatic light green leaves turn deep yellow-gold in fall. Excellent for butterfly gardens because it provides food for caterpillars especially attracting the Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly.

Birds feed on the small, brilliant red fruits formed on female plants, including American Robin, Northern Bobwhite, Gray Catbird, Eastern Kingbird, and Great Crested Flycatcher, eat the drupes.
